    Session Information:

Part I – Dr. Edwards will examine the technical events causing the Flint Water Crisis August 2014 to October 2015, that ultimately caused elevated levels of lead and legionella in water, which in turn caused slightly increased incidence of childhood lead poisoning and an outbreak of Legionnaires disease. Citizen science data exposing the crisis and then tracking the recovery will also be covered.

Part II – Dr. Pieper will review systems and demographic characteristics that increase a private well user’s susceptibility to water lead exposure, explain the remaining challenges preventing reliable prediction of water lead concentrations, describe the water quality challenges in private wells associated with a severe flooding event, and discuss gaps and barriers to dissemination of emergency well water information.
